BOI Application Procedure – Step-by-Step Guide
This section explains how the process for applying for the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) promotion typically works. The BOI provides incentives to eligible projects that contribute to Thailand’s economic development, and following the right procedural steps helps ensure a smooth application and approval.
The procedure usually begins with gathering information about the BOI’s requirements and obtaining the official application form. Applicants can access guidance materials and support from the Investment Services Center, the One-Start-One-Stop Investment Center (OSOS), regional offices, or BOI offices abroad.
After preparing the application form and supporting documents, the basic sequence is as follows:
- Prepare and Submit Application: Complete the BOI application form and all required documentation, then submit it to the BOI office.
- Initial Contact: Within about 10 working days after submission, BOI officials will contact the applicant to set an appointment.
- Presentation / Interview: The applicant (or representative) presents the project to BOI officials and answers questions about the business plan.
- Project Evaluation: The BOI reviews the application and evaluates the project based on criteria, including projected investment value and business impact.
The timeline for review depends on the size of the proposed project:
- For projects with investment value of ≤ 200 million THB – considered by the BOI office (typically within ~40 working days).
- For projects with investment value between 200–2,000 million THB – reviewed by a sub-committee (typically within ~60 working days).
- For projects with investment value > 2,000 million THB – evaluated by a sub-committee and then the BOI board (typically within ~90 working days).
Once the BOI board or committee issues a decision, the BOI will notify the applicant within about 7 working days. After receiving approval, the applicant has a limited period (typically one month) to submit the promotion acceptance form. Then, the company must complete the legal setup and submit incorporation documents within six months. Once those are accepted, the BOI issues the promotion certificate (usually within about 10 working days).
The promotion certificate confirms the project’s approved status and allows the company to receive BOI incentives and benefits according to the Thailand Board of Investment’s regulations.
