Thailand Long-Term Resident (LTR) Visa
The Long-Term Resident (LTR) Visa is a special Thai visa that allows qualified foreigners to live and work in Thailand for up to 10 years. It was created to attract professionals, investors, retirees, and other long-term contributors to the Thai economy, offering benefits beyond standard visas.
One of the main advantages of the LTR Visa is its long validity with multiple-entry privileges, which means you can travel in and out of Thailand freely without needing a re-entry permit. The visa also replaces the usual 90-day check-in with an annual reporting requirement and can provide access to fast-track services at international airports.
Holders may also enjoy options such as a digital work permit, an exemption from the usual Thai-to-foreign employment ratio, a capped personal income tax rate for certain categories, and support with work permit and visa procedures at a one-stop center.
To qualify for the LTR Visa, applicants must fall into specific categories, each with its own criteria:
- Wealthy Global Citizens: Individuals with significant assets and investments linked to Thailand.
- Wealthy Pensioners: Applicants aged 50 or older with stable passive income or pension arrangements.
- Work-From-Thailand Professionals: Skilled employees of reputable foreign companies meeting income and experience requirements.
- Highly-Skilled Professionals: Experts in targeted sectors with proven qualifications.
Dependents, including spouses and children, can also be included under the LTR Visa, subject to conditions. Work permits for dependents are possible after the visa is approved.
The application process usually involves a preliminary review of your profile and documents, preparation and submission to the Thai Board of Investment (BOI), and follow-up until visa issuance.
